In Japan where I live

I m a samurai,I just came back from China.
Like most samurai,we always take two weapon with us,one is long blade another one is a short knife.
Why?In case we will face some dangerous saturation.We need a weapon to defense enemies,and cutting stomach,by the way,the highest symbol of the bushido,is stomach cutting.Die for the lord.
But there are still so much people are proud of birthing in a samurai family.
